Company overview
Liquidation.com is a business-to-business online marketplace for surplus and returned goods. Its parent, Liquidity Services, says the business began in 1999 as a platform for retailers and manufacturers to dispose of excess inventory through competitive online transactions. The marketplace offers inventory lots spanning apparel and accessories, electronics, general merchandise and many other categories. It is a trade liquidation service, not a fashion-only consumer consignment store or a brand-operated resale storefront where buyers receive trade-in credit.
The company's official marketplace description presents pallets, truckloads, small-package lots and some individual units, with buying options that include auctions, negotiated direct sales and fixed-price transactions. Lot information may include manifests and product-condition descriptions, and some sales are restricted to approved professional buyers. The seller may be a retailer, manufacturer or another business. Prices, freight, refund rights and the suitability of goods for specific resale channels can differ significantly by seller and lot.
Liquidity Services' annual reporting distinguishes gross merchandise volume, fee revenue, the proceeds of owned inventory and additional service charges across several operating segments. These measures should not be combined as though the marketplace's transaction value were corporate revenue or fashion resale sales. A retail brand using a wholesale liquidation route should examine data traceability, title transfer, customer returns, geographic distribution controls, damage grading, brand-protection restrictions and disposal alternatives. Buyer-facing liquidation auctions can release inventory quickly but give a brand less control over where goods are later marketed.
