US vs EU Resale Platforms
How geography shaped different resale champions.
The United States and Europe produced different resale champions, shaped by geography, logistics, and consumer habits. European growth was led by free-to-sell, fashion-focused apps that spread through many small, dense markets. The US market developed strong managed and category specialists.
Cross-border complexity in Europe, many languages, currencies, and postal systems, rewarded platforms that solved shipping and payments elegantly. The larger, more uniform US market supported specialists in luxury, sneakers, and managed thrift.
For operators eyeing expansion, the lesson is that resale does not translate automatically between regions. Supply behavior, shipping economics, and buyer expectations differ enough that a model dominant in one market can struggle in another.
