Vinted vs Depop
How two peer-to-peer resale apps built very different cultures.
Vinted and Depop are both peer-to-peer resale marketplaces, but they serve different instincts. Vinted grew on the promise of free selling for everyday clothing, shifting costs onto buyers to keep supply flowing. Depop built a curated, style-led community where presentation and taste drive sales.
The clearest structural difference is fees. Vinted made selling free for individuals and monetizes buyers through a protection fee, a choice that floods it with supply. Depop has historically charged sellers, positioning itself around a more curated, fashion-forward feed.
Culturally they diverge further. Depop reads like a social platform where sellers build a following and merchandise their shop. Vinted reads like a vast, practical closet-clearing utility. Both work, but they attract different sellers and reward different behavior.
